'Cannabidiol vs. Acne' a David & Goliath Story

'Cannabidiol vs. Acne' a David & Goliath Story

Many people assume acne is a problem for the prepubescent, not quite, people off ages can suffer from acne, over production of sebum- and the solutions are not always easy while the symptoms are hard to ignore.

Scientific studies on CBD in recent years have consistantly shown that CBD for acne works. We will explore in this blog what CBD is proven to do for the skin; the only reasonable question you may ask yourself is why it’s taken so long for you to try CBD for acne.

First, let’s consider why some acne problems develop – particularly into adulthood. As we all know, with adolescence comes an array of blemish causing hormones.

An over-abundance of sebum production, and the end result of acne is more annoying as an adult; it’s a fairly common problem for adults to have acne problems well into their 40s and even 50s.

Some common factors that can cause adult-onset acne include:

  • Stress
  • Diet
  • Genetics
  • Menopause/Hormonal
  • Medications
  • Cosmetics
  • Hygiene

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, “adult acne happens with a flare up, that’s usually in response to the body producing more androgens. Once androgens are released, oil glands are stimulated and it’s very easy for hair follicles to become clogged with oil and dead skin cells.”

Even more compelling, there is a common bacteria that has been found to compound the common problem of acne- called Propionibacterium, which causes an abundance of build-up in the pores of the skin, resulting in larger and redder acne.

The natural way to heal your skin is to keep the skin very clean, destroy the bacteria, and get rid of the excess oil, as much as possible. There are prescription drugs that can treat acne problems, but they commonly contain chemicals, dangerous unwanted side effects, when better results are proven to be found with CBD.

Recent studies of CBD have revealed that it does in fact help with reducing acne, and offers some advantages over prescription or OTC medications.

So how does it work?

The methodology behind how CBD is so effective starts with the prevention of excess oil buildup, one of the primary reasons that acne happens in the first place. A study in The Journal of Clinical Investigation revealed that CBD compounds had a powerful effect on human skin samples, including anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial effects on “oil-producing glands.”

Not only did the CBD for acne studies show promise in preventing oil buildup on the face, but they were even shown to reduce body acne as well. This explains why many companies are starting to incorporate CBD into soap and body wash.

Another study quoted in the National Library of Medicine showed that subjects responded favorably to CBD ointment in the treatment of other skin conditions, like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis.

It has most recently been observed that the compound will also help to hydrate the skin, reduce the appearance of scars, and keep it rejuvenated by blocking free radical damage – it is also proven to help with skin regeneration. Take care of your skin with CBD- it’s the only thing you wear all the time.
